- BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

- Marikki Hakola is a pioneering artist of the Finnish media art. Ms. Hakola's videos are the very first internationally celebrated and awarded Finnish media art works. Hakola studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki 1980-84. She started working with video and performance in 1982, and from the year 1984 on she has been involved in audiovisual and multimedia projects, independent productions, experimental television productions and education. Hakola´s works include video tapes, installations, multimedia, performances, collaborative audiovisual projects and Internet-projects. Her works have attended art museums, festivals, collections and exhibitions all over the world. Her video works have also been broadcast in Finland, Austria, Holland, Hungary, Spain, Germany and Great Britain.

- Hakola is working at this moment as a media artist, director and researcher in Magnusborg Studios, Finland. She is doing a research aiming at the doctorat thesis. Ms Hakola´s research topic is "Hypermontage - a Montage of the Moving Image in Multimedia". In 1993 Hakola founded together with Milla Moilanen and Raimo Uunila, the production company Kroma Productions Ltd. Kroma is one of the main companies producing media art in the Scandinavia. Hakola is an executive producer of the film and media art production Company Krom Productions Ltd.
